I’m Shoba Gatimu. An alumnus of Moi University school of law, lover of food, barbecues and documentaries. I have a passion for eating (lol) and experimenting.
I was born and raised in Mombasa in a fairly normal working-class family. Growing up I never really had an opportunity to eat out and try out different cuisines as eating out was mainly a luxury and preserve for the somewhat rich people. But I read tonnes of lifestyle magazines and I was always in awe that food could look that good. This motivated me to get in the kitchen and try replicating these dishes. Sometimes I succeeded, most times I failed but kept trying.
The more I tried things out, the more it got complicated. The more recipes got confusing and complicated. Most items were unavailable locally or if available, they were just extremely pricey. That led me to wanting to know more about how to substitute
ingredients and cooking with what I could readily source. Then I somehow started catering for events and cooking at small house parties. I believe that there is a lot of potential in the food industry space that is yet to be explored.
I host a Facebook live cooking platform called Cookout Thursdays where I show people how to cook different items and host live interactions.
It has been a tough, exciting yet amazing journey and I know it just got started so I greatly look forward to sharing it with you.
Stick around and let’s have this journey together.
