Easy Fruit Salad
Fruit salads may be the simplest salads to make but for some reason, most of us end up making the same old bland avocado, banana, watermelon bowl. It’s a common thing everywhere. Zero effort. Zero thoughts. Just three ‘common’ fruits diced up, thrown in a bowl…BAM!!! Mediocrity.
Why? We believe that fruits are expensive. But are they really? Yeah sure. Some of them really are. Like the kiwi fruit that is currently retailing at 150 bob a piece. Mind you, it’s smaller than an apple. Preposterous. So, does a salad have to cost an arm and a leg to make? Absolutely not.
Here’s an easy delicious fruit salad that you will love on a hot any day.
1/2 green apple
½ red apple
1 sweet ripe tangerine peeled
Slice of a sweet ripe pineapple
Slice of watermelon
½ mango. Peeled and diced
A couple grapes (Grapes are actually cheap at the moment. A small bunch is retailing for 30-50 bob ksh.)
For the dressing:
Juice of half sweet orange
3 tbsp honey
Pinch of cinnamon powder
Pinch of ginger powder
Small pinch of chilli powder (Optional but I highly recommend it if you like a good twist)
Mix all the ingredients in a cup, drizzle over your salad and toss.
Side Note: Fruit salads can be nasty if some of your fruits are unripe or were harvested before maturing so they never sweeten. Make sure that all your fruits are well ripened.
PS: This salad will actually cost less than 100 bob to make. Yes. It’s that cheap.
